Judgment of Gods

Evorath looked down upon her world, freed from the grip of demons and full of joy. It had been a rough transition, but her people had unfettered themselves from the grasp of this threat. Many of the other gods had teased her during the conflict, but those whom had been supportive gathered around her now to celebrate the victory.

There was Ferrief, a veteran god of life who had created many worlds across the multiverse. Cerbvicus joined in as well, a god of warriors who had created some of the most physically powerful species in the multiverse. Dirkameed also joined in the celebration, a god of wealth and productivity. There were other gods who joined in the celebration as well, some of them deciding to descend down to Evorath and interact with the people.

In their celebrations, the gods offered Evorath some of their abilities, helping her to further craft her world. Ferrief helped to create some vast and fertile plains. Cerbvicus introduced Evorath’s people to the concept of hunting and tool-making. Dirkameed passed down the ideas of barter and currency systems. Together, they would help Evorath become the best world that it could be.

Evorath spoke to those gathered.

“Many thanks to you, my dearest friends. My heart and soul I have poured into this world, and for all thee to be gathered in celebration is an honor like none other.”

The gods applauded Evorath, and recognized her for her creativity and beauty. They acknowledged she had shown great care in creating both flora and fauna, demonstrating ingenuity like none before. Ferrief spoke.

“I commend you for your success. You have demonstrated a superior ability to create life and built a world where love can truly flourish.”

The entire gathering applauded Ferrief and his words, knowing them to be true.

Evorath took a deep bow, brushing her hair out of her face as she rose back to full height and addressing the other gods once more.

“Since I was but a young goddess, striving to branch out and create my own world, I have always had an interest in the forests, the trees, and everything that grew forth from them. I may have created these on my own, but it is all of you who I must thank for helping me to create the mountains, the streams, the sea creatures and the flying creatures. Without your aide, my world would be but a fraction of what is shall become.”

Once more, the entire audience applauded, all of them very grateful to be recognized.

Of course, not all of the gods were happy with this victory, and some of them looked from afar upon this merry gathering. These gods had teased Evorath for her choice of a planet, and had laughed when the demons rose up. Now that her people had won the war, they were upset.

Among these gods was a very dark soul, a goddess who had created some of the most dangerous and dreadful realms in all of the multiverse. She was the original femme fatal, a beautiful and deadly woman with a tongue that had destroyed less resilient gods. Her ridicule was harsh and unforgiving, and the creatures she populated her worlds with were the stuff of nightmares. She addressed her own group of gods.

“Evorath’s luck must have no bounds. Her world is ridiculous, a land of cowards and wimps. None of her creatures would last for a week in one of my worlds.” Her voice was grating, like a piece of steel being slowly dragged across an uneven stone. “We must come up with a plan to usurp her world, and to show her that the multiverse is not for love, but for survival.”

The gods all agreed, snickering and offering their own suggestions on how they could do this. Some thought it best to unleash another horde of demons. Others believed a dark plague would be the best solution. Still others suggested flooding the world with so much magic that it could no longer sustain itself.

“No,” said this jealous goddess after hearing each of these suggestions. “We must devise something that no other god has thought of. We must make her believe that the destroyer of her world came from her own failure, and not from outside interference. We must create a dark race that will seem a product of evolution, and will wipe the others out completely.”

The gods laughed and all agreed. It would take centuries to come up with the perfect execution, but when the time came it would happen. A dark species would be born on Evorath’s world.

Back at her own party, Evorath enjoyed the company of her friends, listening intently as Dirkameed explained a concept he called “free market.”  She was looking forward to see if her people would adopt it.

After creating a world full of peace and love, she was looking forward to watching it develop and grow. Everyone would be self-sufficient, and the world would function as a paradise, a testament to the power of the gods.
