Hello fellow readers! I wanted to get this up as quickly as possible, but since Halloween was yesterday I hope you will understand the delay. As you know, this was my first year attending Necronomicon, so I was excited to see what I was in for. While the crowd was less than I was expecting, it was a great weekend and I was happy to meet some interesting people during my time there. So, what are some of the highlights?
Signing The Birth of Death
If you have already read “The Birth of Death” and followed me for some time now, you know that my second novel, “The Rise of Yezurkstal” is coming out soon. This weekend, I got meet a great many people who have never before encountered Evorath or had any idea of who I was. It was a pleasure to speak with everyone I met, and a greater pleasure to sign books for all of the new readers. I hope everyone who purchased a copy thoroughly enjoys reading and look forward to hearing any compliments or complaints.
Some Great Panels
Since I was preoccupied for most of the weekend at my own table, I didn’t really get to attend panels during the convention. Despite this, I did participate in a couple of panel discussions. Both were on character perspective and (more or less) looking at how to maintain a consistent voice. I shared my own insights and also loved hearing some other authors talk about their methods and opinions on the subject. It was a great experience and I hope everyone who attended got something out of it.
Seeing All the Costumes
Apparently having Megacon set up shop at the Tampa Convention Center on this same weekend interfered a bit with the schedule. I understand that this is probably why there were fewer people and it also seems like there were fewer costumes. Still, many of those who dressed up went all out, so it was great to see all of them. I didn’t get everyone’s picture and it seems I somehow misplaced some pictures I took, but here are a few for you to check out.
Drawing Winner
As I like doing at conventions like this, I held a drawing for a free copy of “The Birth of Death” as well as a t-shirt, koozie, and dog tag. Well, the winner for this drawing Tanja (or maybe Tanya) Diederich. Of course, Tanja did not come by the booth during the drawing and though others offered that they “could be Tanja” if it helped them claim the free stuff, I am still holding out for the winner. I sent an email on Halloween, so hopefully I will get a response to deliver your winnings. If you are reading this, make sure to contact me (joseph@evorath.com).
Everything Else
Of course, there were plenty of other great things at Necronomicon 2016. I know plenty of people were enjoying games through all hours of the weekend upstairs. The artist gallery had some beautiful images and the vendor area had some unique things to offer as well. Here are a few of those to consider.
Despite the smaller size, I am inclined to set up at Necronomicon next year as well. It was great to connect with some of the regulars there and interact with some many interesting people.
