The Kingdom of Erathal

Ancient Times – 1 Month after Official Settlement

“It has only been a month since we officially settled in this spot; only one month!” exclaimed Ulagret with excitement. He stood on the same makeshift stage that had been constructed exactly one month before, looking down at a large crowd of elves. “And yet, today I look out among you and see that our numbers have almost doubled. Elves from all over the continent have heard of our accomplishment and I can assure you more will be coming.”

The crowd applauded, some scattered cheers ringing out among the ranks. Ulagret motioned for them to quiet down before he continued. He didn’t believe he would ever get used to all of this attention. It was almost as if his people were worshiping him and he really did not enjoy it.

“More importantly, we have made tremendous progress in organizing our society during this time. I’ve personally worked alongside many of you and watched the completion of your homes. I know some of you have already started to make progress on farms as well. With their tireless efforts, some of your local leaders have nearly completed construction of barracks and will soon begin training an army to defend our kingdom.”

“We have built a community and we now stand as a collective, showing the entirety of Evorath that we will never again be pushed back by anyone. I guess what I am really trying to say,” continued Ulagret ready to wrap up his little speech, “is well done!”

The crowd erupted into applause. Not wanting to stay at the center of attention any longer than he needed to, he motioned to one of his aides and walked off stage, stepping down to the front of the crowd. Two of his assistants quickly arrived as his side, waving off all of the spectators who were vying for his attention.

He and his aides proceeded around and past some partially completed cabins, walking northwest towards the site of his temporary home. The Kingdom still had a lot of growing to do, but as he observed all of the progress they had made he really did feel a strong sense of pride. Only one month ago, this entire area had been filled with trees and uninhabited. Now, he was leading his people towards a brighter future, one built on cooperation and understanding.

Despite this outlook, there was something inside Ulagret that left him with a feeling of discomfort. More than anything, he wished he could return to his life as a simple craftsman.
